ROTTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) -Robin Soderling won the ABN Amro final Sunday when former champion Mikhail Youzhny of Russia retired because of a thigh injury.

The third-seeded Soderling, who finished second to Michael Llodra two years ago, became the first Swedish winner of the indoor tournament since Anders Jarryd in 1993.

He dropped serve in the first game of the match but broke back immediately. The Swede broke twice more in the first set and once in the second to lead 6-4, 2-0.

Youzhny eventually decided he couldn't continue, giving Soderling his fifth career title.

In the semifinals, Soderling beat second-seeded Nikolay Davydenko and Youzhny defeated top-seeded Novak Djokovic.

too bad that yousney went down in the finals but it is good to see him get his career back on track. Its funny how I like ..soderling now.... I did not think that could ever happen given his treatment of Nadal but somewhere, someway I forgave him.... congrad's to Soderling!

Congrats to Soderling - I am sure it is a mixed reaction - getting the ti tle: joyful, but getting by your opponent retiring, probably a bummer. But it is another trophy.....I was going for Djokovic - probably doomed him

Upset today, I'm sure the favorites were Djoker and Davy. Djoker was complaining about not being able to see I believe. I like watching both Soderling and Youzhny so it will be a good match tomorrow.
